drinking cider in Bali
      #317569 - Tue Aug 10 2010 11:51 AM

Next time I go to Bali I will have my sister with me. She doesn't drink beer so sunset drinks at Billy's will be a challenge.

She does however, drink cider, but not being a cider drinker myself I have never taken any notice whether it is available in Bali or not.

Can you get cider? Where? Cost?

Any help appreciated.
Not giving up beach drinks just cos sis don't drink Bintang!

"Dickins" is usually a popular cider amongst the girls.

My friends daughter & her BFwere drinking those things at Jimmys Bar, I think they preferred the red and the green ones. I sampled one of them and it was ok if you're into the vodka cruiser type things.

They are lolly water, I don't mind ruskies and some cruisers back home, but those mix max drinks are pretty awful.
I don't drink beer, EXCEPT in Bali, the heat just screams for one

As mentioned Bali Cider is available. It is a little hard to get hold of but you can buy it from Logi Supermarket in Legian, we usually stock up there. The only restaurant that I have found it in is Legian Snacks, across the road from Logi Supermarket. The price is around 10,000 to 12,000rp a bottle (can't remember exactly as we always buy other things as well)

Yes, there are ciders in Bali. They are also known as Bali Coolers. There are a number of varieties, Apple (cider), Orange and Lemon. The orange is sort of like an Alcoholic Fanta and the Lemon sort of like an alcoholic Solo. They are available from a number of bars etc. including Uncle Norms and different places.

The website below is an old Bali Aussie menu (really old because the Bintangs are only 7,500 rupiah. But it shows it listed on the menu in the drinks section.

http://home.alphalink.com.au/~grum/bali/baliaussie/baliaussie_menu.htm

Or this Legend website happy hour price list:

In Summary, I LOVE my Bali Apple Cider Coolers. I drink them as often as I do my Bintangs. So if she likes Cider ask for Apple Cider or Bali Coolers and you should be right. Unfortunately, they don't seem to be available from Carrefore, Matahari's or Bintang Supermarket if you are chasing a carton (I know, I spent about 4 - 5 hours on my trip in November). But you will find them at some restaurants and pubs.
Enjoy, and make sure you leave some for me... LOL

If you find what you like and have a local, either ask them to stock some for you or drop some in their esky and slip them some Rp for keeping them cold but be prepared to loose some to the locals. All and all not a big problem.

I am afraid that as someone who loves cider the Bali Cider was very quickly poured down the sink. Does it even have apples in it?
If you are brave enough to try it the grocer under the video shop near Dynasty (one with the big parking area in front) always stocks them. Have spotted them at a couple of others like Logi on occassion.
