Greetings Joey, no more than $10,000 Australian per person. Thats the ammount stated on the entry card to Bali. Any more than this and you will have to declare, not worth the little smoky room at the airport with heirachy I reckon.

Rock on...

20 Million $AU That will do for you alone.. Right ?

Honestly Mate I do not think that they even care.. as long as you spend it there.

However, I am sure that there is a limit ...but chances are that for a two week holidays you will not even reach their limit ,even if you are shipping furniture and stone to Melbourne

You do not have to declare the Australian currency you take out out with you however, there is a question on the departure form asking if u have more than AUD$10,000. If you exceed that amount you have to declare it. If you have more than AUD$10,000 and declare it I am not aware that there is a limit. The crucial point is to declare what you have.

As to taking Rupiah into Indonesia (or out of) my memory (yes I know I am old) produces a figure of RP 10,000,000 and that also comes from Immigration and departure forms issued by Indonesia.

I think taking too much in would be a mistake...I hate that little room where they just muck about asking you all kinds of questions & what they really want is your money & where in the end you just have to hand it over and then you can go, that was bad enough with $100 but with $10,000 I would have had a heart attack!

Hi Joey1434, I had a look at some Indonesian Embassy forms and have come up with the following. Quite clearly the limit is RP 5,000,000 however, to put ur mind completely at rest I suggest you do a Search using "KJRI" and under "contact us u will find ur local Konsulate and its phone number. Give them a call and set ur mind at rest. I regularly carry in excess of RP3M in and out of Bali.

If u are in a party, I imagine its then a "per person" situation
eg party members times RP5 Mill

The information below is from an Indonesian Embassy publication.

Thanks so much Clive
I did infact call the indonesian embassy in canberra today - but no one answered after i was put through to the department i needed? I didnt get a chance to call back but will try again tomorrow if i get a chance in working hours. I have searched and searched the net and come up with different figures. I first thought it was 5.000.000, hopefully it is each. There are 4 in our crew and 3 in another so i'll just spread it around if I have too.

With the Indonesian President in Canberra today, it is no wonder the Embassy did not answer you.

The Sydney Konsulate is at 236 Maroubra Road pho 9349 7596 fax 7349 6854. I would call them tomorrow and get the right figure.

BTW don't reveal just how much u have currently, just in case u are violating the rules.

I usually take $2,000.00 sometime 3 or 4 and have never been questioned.
I think it is when you do get into the $10,000 mark you need worry.

They dont seem to (from what i have read) have a problem with bringing other currencies in, bringing in or taking out rupiah is what seems to be a problem - we had some rupiah left over from our last trip and friends exchanged some for us that they had left over.

Kiwisteve - no TA this time.

sorry 100,000,000 those damn 0's

The people coming with us are wanting to know whether,
considering all the fees at the atm and the limits resulting in having to use them more often to get the money out you need (what are the limits anyway, does anyone know?) would there be much difference in changing your money before you go if you were only going to use the atm option whilst there?

Just take AUD and change as needed.
You don't need to use the ATM every day.
It is definitely NOT worth changing currency in Australia.

I agree.
To exchange AUD$1 at the Commonwealth Bank here in Australia you'd get 7587rp at today's rate but exchange it in Bali and you'd get 8 375rp. Multiply the difference by a couple of thousand and the amount is significant.

That is what I have suggested - but they are stressing about every little thing - I think they are just nervous.

How much can you get out of the atm per transaction?

Sorry for all the questions but I just dont have the answers for them.

I love this forum - everyone is so helpful.

The ATM's vary on the limit, anywhere from 1.5 mill to 2 mill and I think a couple at 3 mill, but I'll stand corrected, I don't use them much, CASH, $Aus, it's so much easier, just find a reputable money changer, and there are quite a few, near your hotel and stick with them. Here is a link to just one reputable outlet MONEY CHANGER and LOCATIONS
