Hi, and sorry don't know about Dr Rudy, however, I missed the posts before about dentists but can highly recommend Dr Made Suthanaya in Dempasar 0361 224505, you can't make an appointment, you just go and wait.. it looks really bad from outside but inside are all the mod cons. Dr Made is highly respected and was referred to me by BIMC years ago. A filling costs 100,000 and takes 2mins and you don't even know he has started. My son and I both have had brace plates from here at Rp1,500,000 each! After 30+++ years my teeth are straight and it only took 6 months.
Years ago in Australia I was told it would require an operation, 4 teeth out and $3500 to do the job.

Hi, I visited Dr Rudy last time I was in Bali and had a crown done...was very hygienic...the nurse does a lot of the work though so don't be surprised by that. I emailed before I left Aus and was told to ring when I got there though there was quite a few people who just turned up. His number is 0361 766255 or 7449911 and he's in the Mall Bali Galleria

A porcelain crown with Dr Rudy cost me Rp2.5M last September. I'd definitely recommend booking ahead. I'd been told to just turn up, so we did that and had to make an appointment for about 5 days later.

I need a root canal and crown. It's going to cost me $2,500 here. That's a lot for just one tooth! Any idea how much for a root canal?
Cheers Tracey

I went to his business partner Dr Indra Guizot the past few weeks. He specialises in implants. One implant costs $1200 AUS compared to $6 to $7 thousand here.
He is in Denpasar. Painless but be prepared to have a week of recovery. He guarantee's his work for 5 years!!! Try that in Australia.

Does anyone know the minimum time frame you would need to have procelain crowns or veneers done while in Bali. I will be there in Sept but only for 8 days. Are there a few visits required?

saw Dr Rudy a few weeks ago, I had two fillings, one a badly broken tooth and one a white front one, and Mark had his teeth cleaned.
Cost was under $100 for the both of us.
His clinic at Galleria is good, and he also has one in Denpasar which is were you go for teeth whitening.

Hi guys well I had 2 crowns done , and hubby had 2 brocken teeth repaired and a root canal , we were both really impressed with the practise and what I noted was that his offsiders do all the prep work and root canals etc but he comes in to do final fittings and to make sure the job is done correctly on all implants and crowns . we are going back later this year as hubby is having a bridge done with 14 teeth attached at a low cost of $4.500 not bad as I had a bridge with only 3 teeth attached 18months ago here in Perth at a cost of $10,000 .It only took 4 days from the time my impressions were done to the time they were fitted so to happy traveller if you go in in the first couple of days you will have plenty of time

Bumping this old thread because I lost a filling last night and the dentist told me today that I need a root canal and crown done to repair the tooth and quoted me $3k

I've never had either done before and, since we're going to Bali anyway in two weeks, I'm contemplating getting it done on our last day (we fly out just after midnight).

Has anyone had this done before and would it be ok to get done on our last day before we fly out? Also, I can see Dr Rudy definitely does them but do the other Drs mentioned by Andy Mc and Ocha do them? I'm worried that with only 2 weeks to go I'll find it hard to get an appointment.

Anyone else got any tips on things I should be thinking about?

You should be aware that not all root canals can be done in 1 visit. Also a crown often requires at least 2 appointments.
Maybe you should visit the dentist as soon as you arrive to ascertain full treatment needed.

When I had my root canal and crown done, it took a total of 5 visits. Three visits with my home dentist to do the root canal, then the crown with Dr Rudy took two more visits. First one was to take a mold and color match, then grind down what was left of the old tooth and put on a temporary crown. Then about 5 days later, the porcelain crown was ready and took about 10 minutes to fit.

The root canal is relatively cheap, if you have private health cover. I think I paid around $60-ish per visit after claiming on my private with the dentist at home. He then said it would be a minimum of $1500 for the crown itself, but more like $2500+ if I wanted porcelain. Cost me $300-ish with Dr Rudy for porcelain.

I had a tooth fall out about 10 weeks ago and went to the local dentist for a quote (as you do these days) $600 - bridge, $2500 - plate or $4500 for an implant, told them I'd think about it. I had read about Dr Rudy and thought I'd give him I go. Long story but ended up the wrong Dr Rudy and was sent to a Dr Indra in Denpasar well what a business this bloke has going. At least 10 chairs all better than my local dentist has and all being used. No appointment, I just walked in, had a chat 1/2 hour later new implant. He said NO pain and he was right. He charged $1200 ASD. Went back two days later to have tooth fitted. Worst part was the 1.5 hour wait for a taxi to get back to Kuta.

Thanks so much - like I said, I'm totally clueless about this because I've never had one done. We go on the 8th so I'll see how much the root work is and whether I can get that done here before I go and maybe get the crown over there, since that's the expensive part.

Really appreciate it guys!

I agree with Cosmo, go in as soon as possible.
Great that Rapideye had the same experience as me with Indra. Straight in and painless.
And yes get your taxi to wait for you for the return. Just give them a small tip for waiting. They have to return to their area anyway, so at least they get your fare. Saves a drama finding a taxi in the quieter part of Denpasar.

This is probably a really dumb question but do the dentists there work on weekends? We're getting in on the Saturday so not sure that I can get to the dentist before Monday.

I'm definitely considering the cost benefit of holidaying in Bali anytime I need more major dental work!

I've emailed Dr Rudy and he said it will take 2 appointments to do the root canal and crown and that I should do them when I first get there and then just before I leave.

I'm so relieved because my dentist told me that there was no way they could even do the root canal before I go, since they take at least 2 appointments and space them 2-3 weeks apart (and then do the crown 3-6 months later!). Much rather get it over and done with in one fell swoop.

Now I'm just nervous because I've never had either done before. It shouldn't interfere too much with my holiday should it? It's not like a tooth extraction or anything...

Katybug

Root canals are not the nicest thing...but once the nerve is out of the tooth, then there's no more pain. Getting the nerve out is the first part of the process.

I think that part of the "spacing" process in aussie is to make sure that no tissue is left in the canal - if there is, it can get infected somewhere down the track. Maybe waiting a few weeks between appts allows them to see this better. I've had 2 done in the past though, without any problem.

What is Dr Rudy charging for the crown? I need one done on a lower molar, which is currently being held together with a metal band. Price quoted $aud1200, of which my health fund will re-imburse me $500.

Carol

Katy I really don't understand if your own dentist, who knows your teeth advises
spacing your appointments 2-3 weeks apart, why would you even consider doing
something else just because it's cheaper???

Because that isn't at all based on knowing my teeth - that's what the receptionist told me based on their standard procedure. Apparently the dentist hasn't as yet entered in any treatment plan on my notes and has only verbally told me that's what I need.

I didn't particularly like this dentist in the first place and have a follow-up appointment tomorrow for a second opinion with a dentist that I like and trust at that practice.

But for a difference of around $2700 that I really don't have spare I'm willing to roll the dice a little on a single tooth, yeah.

I had infections after my root canal was done, and it took two doses of antibiotics to clear it up. They use a softer filling until they're sure it's all clear, then use a hard filling to finish off once they know they don't need to go back in.

My crown wasn't done until about 18 months after the root canal process was finished and the filling held up with no problem at all, even though my dentist told me the crown had to be done within 12 months.

If you're planning on returning to Bali next year, you could probably get the root canal done now and get the crown done next time.

Hiya! I am off to Bali for 9 days 21-30 Dec 2009. I have been visiting my same dentist in Oz for 23 years (sad, I know!!) and now need an implant at the front and a crown. Even with HBF cover for 23 years (thieving ******!) it will still cost me about $7,000 which I can't afford in a pink fit!

Dr Rudy put me in touch with his collegue in Denpasar and they have been great via email in giving me info but I want to know if anyone has had an implant done there recently and can tell me:

Do they do Xrays and stuff first?
Does it hurt while they are doing it?
How long does it take?
Does it hurt afterwards and for how long?
Do you have a puffy face or anything afterwards?!
Can they put a temporary crown in straight after?

Hopefully someone can help me out there!!
Cheers
Deb

I went to Dr Indra - he is great. quoted NO pain and he was spot on. I can't remember the price for the implant but it's in an old post but it was bloody cheap compared to Qld dentists and I would if I need to have another no hesitation going to see the good DR again. Quick you would not believe it 1/2 hour 1st visit + 1/2 hour fitting 2 days later, get the taxi to wait, not many in that part of Denpasar
