Thanks for your input. Had originally planned to do the Safari and Marine Park but had been reading that it was overrated and overpriced and that Bali Zoo was a better option. But if u think that will be better for us then I will go with your recommendations, would love to know what other teenagers thought of it,have read a lot about the littlies loving it, just want to be sure they will enjoy themselves and it doesn't end up a waste of time or money. Thanks Heaps, your advice is appreciated!

We went last Oct to he Safari park, it was a family holiday, kids plus partners their ages ranged from 27 to 16 and they all enjoyed the Safari Park. I considered it to be good value for money, we did not eat at the main restaurant with the lions around the outside but at the second restaurant which was well priced with good food. We spent from 10.00 till 4.00 there but would have liked a couple of extra hours, I cannot compare it to the zoo as havent been there yet, plan to do that in May. By the time you watch the shows, do the ride around the park, have photos taken, ride the elephants, eat lunch you have filled in a day and I can only highly recommend it. Cheers Gill

http://www.balisafarimarinepark.com/ check out the website. i don't think it is overated or overpriced, but we all have differing opinions. like alot of tourist attractions, they are often a little pricey. not sure what the going rate is at the moment. i think it was 250,000rupiah per head when we went there. it is worth the money. i recommend hiring your own driver. there is a free courtesy bus, but from reports i have heard(and we all have differing opinions!), you only had around 3 hours to do everything at the park, and i think it is a full day. included in the entrance price, you can: take a tour to see the animals close up, on the tourist bus. enjoy a free bird show. have your photo taken with one of the baby animals(tiger, orangutan or lion?). get up close with some of the bird life. have a side show ride, on the octopus. have a much needed swim in the lovely pool. see the elephant show. for extra you can: have an elephant ride(100,000rp for 10mins i think). have lunch or a drink in the restaurant and watch the lions from the restaurant and rest rooms! expect to pay around $15 for a basic meal. have a ride on some more side shows. there is heaps to see and do and the kids would love it. i would do this instead of the bali zoo. barb

Hi Thatsgold
We have in the past done both the Safari Park and on another trip did the Bali Zoo. We loved the Safari Park, there is loads to see and do and yes the entry price may seem a little steep by Bali terms, but what you get for that price is amazing!!! My daughter said to us she felt like she was in Africa!! Take you bathers as a cool off in the pool area is very refreshing.
As for the Bali Zoo, we went 4 years ago now but we not all that impressed, to me it was just like any other zoo, except at the time I found a lot of the animals were in very very small cages, with not a lot of room to move.
My dayghter did get to feed a crocodile/alligator, which she liked a lot, but my opinion, we had a lot better time at the Safari PArk.
Either way, Im sure you will enjoy which ever you choose, how could you not, you're in Bali!!

why do you need to hire a driver for a visit to the Safari Park? Am I missing something here? Is the park that big that you need a driver? Or is it hire a driver to TAKE you TO the Safari Park? Whereabouts is the Park. I will be in Ubud. So how far away is the park from Ubud? thanks in advance for your replies.

The Safari Park is heaps better than the zoo. The Safari park is a whole day, if you catch the free bus you don't have enough time there, you get an extra couple of hours with your own driver. You need to barter the best price from the street side tourist desk, then go to a couple of more tour stalls and tell them the price you got and see if they can beat it. Some will offer you a driver, don't pay more than 300000rp cause it's only 2 hours of driving the rest of the time they can do something else. The park is open from 9 to 5 so get there for opening. They have some free side show rides and some you have to pay for over the bridge. the bumpercars and water ride are about half price of what you pay at perth royal show. Be kwik to stick up your hand at the elephant show and you will be up on stage with some others getting walked over by the elephants and then they put a flower lay over your head and give you a kiss. Blanko, the Orang utang that nearly dragged my son off a balcony when he was at the Melka hotel starts the animal show at the first stage. You can feed the elephants pat an orang atang, lion and tiger, swim in the pool, ride a camel or an elephant, you and your kids will love it. The food at the main Restaurant is a bit expensive but the other little food stalls are reasonably priced. If you do go to Bali zoo you can also do the Bird and Reptile parks as well, they are a bit pricey but you get to hold birds or eguana's, I pat this huge lizard that they said was harmless but i still nearly soiled my pants when he turned around and gave a grunt. The Komdo dragons are scarey looking lizards as well, don't try and pat them, they just followed our kids backwards and forwards when we visited. You could see they wanted a taste. The bird park has all these flamingos sitting around the pond near the restaurant, Its beautiful but a bit price to eat. If your budget allows I would see them all. If not, the Safari Park would be a bit better. Which ever one you decide on remember to barter hard with the tour desks on the street. Even with Waterbom park, if you don't have a voucher thru your tour package you can get up to 15% discount from a tour desk. Have fun Mr Todd

If it were me I'd head to the Safari Park as there are plenty of interesting things to see in and around Gianyar (where the Safari Park is located)....

Hi Levi, could you give me suggestions as I don't want to spend a whole day at the Safari Park as we only have four days.

Titra Empul (water palace) at Tampaksiring, Mas for the wood carvers or Ubud is not too far and within it's surrounds you've got Goa Gajah (elephant cave/temple), Sukawati Markets, Monkey Forest etc etc....

I have heard that the animals are drugged at both places in order for them to be held. If this is the case I would rather not go to either. Can anyone shed some light on this for me please?
Thanks

You are going to get opposite opinions on this. I think this is a decision you have to make without actually having proof either way as to animal drugging and constant handling that human babies and their mums would object to.

Hi everyone, maybe this is an obvious question however I am new to the Forum. Is the Marine Park or Bali Zoo where you can swim with dolphins. I understand there is a place in Lovina but have not heard about the zoo or marine park. Thanks in advance.

Hi 230860 No not unless they have both changed since we were last there anyway. At the Safari Park you can ride an elephant and camel, watch an elephant show, have your pic with lion and tiger cubs and a baby orangatang and also do an African style tour and see the animals up close and personal.
We thought it was well worth the trip and would def go again.
Cheers Rochelle

Possibly if you refer to your own posting "Swimming with Dolphins" on page 7 you may once again like to read and reply to these questions and answers.
